Modern

My "modern" section will mostly include early and middle 20th century, because later, post-modern music is something that I rarely enjoy or understand. From modern period I would like to highlight the following directions:

  • Classical-style arrangements of well-known melodies (folk melodies, melodies from popular films and songs).
  • Ragtime on guitar (pre-jazz). Many piano works sound quite decent on guitar.
  • Brazilian, Venezuelan, Spanish guitar.
  • Flamenco guitar.
  • Old-style compositions. Often simpler songs, that make up great beginner's repertoire, but it's almost evident they're still modern, because of scale and accents.
  • Complex original works, comparable with modern classical music for other instruments. Played on solo guitar or in ensemble.

The beauty of modern music for a guitarist is much wider audience that will enjoy your play. It's harder to find people who enjoy listening to music from Renaissance, Baroque or Romantic periods.
